  Natural Skylight

The ghostly glow of auroras and the gentle radiance of the zodiacal light never fail to enchant skywatchers.

The phenomena of auroras and the zodiacal light demonstrate that Earth is a planet within a system of planets. An aurora is the reaction of Earth's upper atmosphere to particles streaming outward from the Sun, while the zodiacal glow is created when sunlight reflects off countless specks of interplanetary dust.
