STAR TRAILS

But why not let the stars trail across the frame? Star-trail pictures are ahvays impressive. For a dramatic composition, include a landscape or a fore-ground object such as a tree.

Star trails are best taken with an ISO 100 to 400 film. For first attempts, try exposures of 5 to 30 minutes at t/4. Check the results—it the sky is brightly lit, the exposures were too long, but it the sky is dark, your site is good enough to allow even longer exposures. At very dark sites, exposures can last all night, especially with the lens stopped down to f/8 or so.
